Art of the Week: Faerie Frolic #1

One of my goals this year is to get reacquainted with watercolors. Over the past weeks, I’ve discovered a few things:

  • Under painting matters.
  • Less paint is often more.
  • A fine, light touch is essential.
  • On the background, work from light to dark.

I’m excited to grow my skills with watercolor and ink this year, so today I’m launching a little series of watercolors called Faerie Frolics, which (as the name suggests) is all about catching faeries in the act of mischief.

Today’s installment is Faerie Frolic No. 1: Sticky Situations. I used watercolor, Arches cold pressed watercolor paper (pre-stretched) and sepia tone Higgins ink.

    • I am so glad you enjoy it, too! Well, I had considered doing a print … but thought this might be one of those “only a mother could love” type instances. 😉 (Being the first of a series, one never knows ….) Shall I consider your comment a nudge in a positive direction?

What do you think?
